Dr. Dominique Engel

Dominique was raised in the horse industry, spending her time between Saratoga Springs, NY and Middleburg, VA. Being from a racing family, she spent time around some top horses in the business, including 1992 Eclipse Award champion Saratoga Dew.

From prepping yearlings at McMahon of Saratoga to exercise riding for top trainers Michael Dickinson and Richard Dutrow, she has had the opportunity to be around many graded stakes performers, including Tapit & Saint Liam.

While earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami, she continued to learn about different aspects of the business by working as a jockey’s agent at the South Florida tracks. During this period, she discovered her true passion for bloodstock and selecting equine athletes.

In order to further her knowledge, she attended veterinary school. She received a full scholarship to the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated as one of the top students in her class. Dominique opened her own ambulatory racetrack practice, servicing the NYRA circuit. While practicing on track, she gained valuable experience on conformation and management of racehorses, learning about traits that helped or hindered the success of horses. Concurrently, Dominique worked with internationally renowned bloodstock agent Hubert Guy, helping in the selection of yearlings and two year olds at public auction.

Firmly believing in the importance of equine welfare, Dominique currently works part-time for the USDA to improve the welfare of horses throughout the equine industry.

Her combined knowledge and experience have made her very skilled at identifying talent in young horses and racing prospects both in the US and abroad.
